(D6 MA, Closed) Special Delivery

Postby Jelna Vawn » Thu Oct 25, 2018 5:01 pm

There was a job to do, one that she hoped would not compromise the planet. Something about Noventa, maybe Cefey's words, was drawing her to it. This was all despite of the chill in the air.

If she knew where to start, she'd take care of that.

But right now she had to help Kai. She unplugged the datapad from her cybernetic implant after checking that the right recordings were prepared. More importantly, she had temporarily dumped all of her Imperial day recordings back on the ship, save for the ones she couldn't ever be rid of: memories of Zerra. So many backups of those were lying around and even now she was unable to bring herself to delete any.

Inside the Government building the office to the Sector Rangers was the target, within there was but a lone and overworked Zabrak tending to the dispensing of bounties and other tasks. It would be with him that all of Jelna's business must be conducted, and at some point, find a way to discreetly get into their systems for a small period of time. That is, should they wish not to be discovered and have this job become connected with them.

Sitting at a desk with a fresh cup of caf returned the young man, a Zabrak, to his desk for a continuation of his duties.

Accompanying Jelna was Fey. Not only was she good for any potential computer problems, but she could also make for excellent distractions in a pitch.

She cast a concerned glance to Jelna, as she could feel there was something weighing on her friend. At least she felt she could push through the darkness that had been hanging over them all this time... she loved her friends. Despite all their faults. And they were in this together.

It was only a brief thing - the soft squeeze of Jelna's shoulder, but it just had that assurance that Jelna was not alone; she had friends.

"Excuse me sir, I have somethin' of use for the planetary security. The other day, there were break-ins at some militia armories. I have recordings of the crime scene and everythin' 'bout how they did it." Jelna shook her head. "Imperials, can't believe they're all the way out here."

The young Zabrak turned up his gaze from the holovid playing out in front of him, a touch annoyed he had to pause it once more after having just gotten back to it but that was the way things were going lately. Seemed this week wasn't going to just sail by like the rest of the, Pulling his caf more into his chest, the aroma wafting up under his nose he looked to Jelna, "That's an awful lot of information. You give it to me, leave your name, and as soon as it gets processed you'll get a notification. That is if this isn't a total and complete waste of my time," he said, more or less wanting to get done with it.

"Is there anything else?"

"Unfortunately, I need to connect with the console myself." Jelna tapped her head. "It's all up there. Well, not the brain, but rather the cybernetics." She looked down the hallway. "Could ya call someone to take us to it? I'm guessin' ya have to stay here at the desk to get all your work done."

Fey raised a hand to gently insert herself into the conversation. "I assure you, monsieur, it's not a waste of your time. This is part of the investigation performed alongside Deputy Cal Arcton - Commander Leo is aware of it and our involvement."

"It's in the.." the Zabrak stopped short, tapping his free hand against the desk. "Right. So, there's no one else here.." he said, glancing past her toward the woman down the way. "I'm obligated to help you anyway, but the problem is I can't just let you go in there alone, and I can't quite leave my desk here. So, what I'm gonna have to tell you to do is to come back another time. I'll make a request but we've been stretched rather thing lately," he said, tapping his fingers against the desk once more.

"Look, we understand that you guys are stretched rather thin. That's why we're helping - like with the investigation, and stopping that heist yesterday," Fey gestured towards herself. She had been there after all, and since Cal had said he had given written reports of the event, she was probably mentioned.

"While the lady here uploads the data from those cybernetic-things, how about I help you a bit with all the work you guys have on your lap? I understand that the gadget of hers takes a bit of time and concentration - connected to brain-stuff and all so it's delicate stuff. So we might as well try to be efficient here?" The twi'lek smiled warmly, as she put forth that genuine emotion of wanting to help these people.

"Look, I just can't let her back there alone... but," he sighs, looking over his desk real quick and thinking how some of this might actually clear up if whatever they had was legitimate. "If you can stand here and tell anyone I'll be right back with your friend, then I can bring her in the back and we can get this downloaded. Just.. lets do this quick," he said, feeling a little uneasy about the idea as it was.

[Note: As far as the Data spike you've been given, it can be inserted in any terminal in the whole place and will link itself to the database as it's required to do.]

Jelna glanced at the terminal at the front desk and then smiled at the zabrak. "That sounds fine by me. I know Honey can be very, very helpful. Ain't that right?" she said before moving in for a close embrace. She gave her a couple pecks on the cheek before leaning in for a whisper. "Call me on my commlink when it's done." She was not going to risk herself being plugged into the database while having some unknown dataspike also hacking in.

When they separated, she looked around with a smile on her face. "Which way then, pal?"

"Sure thing," the twi'lek smiled chipperly, giving Jelna a good hug in return with a content smile on her face as she got another peck on the cheek (so many Jelna-pecks these days!). "And oui, I am very helpful."

"Just.. " he paused his words as he shifted up from his seat, directing with his cup of caf, "along this way. We'll get your information loaded up and go from there."

With the Zabrak leading the way, side by side with Jelna, the two walked off into a separate space from the front desk. Back to where the secure servers were kept. Leaving Cefey alone in the front, with just the usual instruments about one would expect at a front desk of an establishment.

Well, it was time to get to work, it seemed? She was going to be super helpful with all this paperwork stuff. Or whatever it is this guy needed.

And of course, the dataspike.

Fey glanced around for security cameras as she moved towards the front desk.

OOC: I assume there is some surveillance, so possible to insert the dataspike discreetly? Making it look like she's helping out with work like she said she would?

Fey would notice the typical ones, one facing the desk for record of who entered. Naturally that camera also allowed for them to keep tabs on anyone doing anything suspicious. All she needed to do was find the data insert port, get the spike in there and the job was done. At least, as far as the job was concerned.

[OOC: You could, feasibly, do it that way. Though I will note he didn't quite accept the offer because of how, well, that would be weird. Would need to formulate a convincing lie, to be sure. Stealth Hard to mask the hand movements.]

Nothing unusual, good.

It was a bit like old times then, she thought as she went through the familiar motions. An extra sway in the hip, and resting some of her weight against the desk as she shifted her footing, making it seem like she was just taking the opportunity to rest her feet a bit. While her hands easily did the job of finding the data-port and inserting the spike.

As easy as pie. Or something.

"Oof..." she sighed softly, slowly rolling one foot in a circle all the while fiddling with her comm in the other hand as she gave Jelna the ring she had requested. Jelna would know what it meant.

[Camera's are immune to the Force and thus Sleight of Mind is not effective, 5 Success' and 4 Threat is the final total.]

Unfortunately, the data-port that would accept her data spike was lower than she anticipated and Cefey would be forced to change things up a little to fake it. Needing to get herself closer to the floor she would need to come up with some reason why she would have to fiddle with something so close to the ground, or just why she would be down there.

[Threat used to force an awkward situation that would make subsequent Deception/other rolls explaining this situation to have at least one setback.]

Good thing she had that commlink in her hand. And those comms were such slippery things. Why, this one escaped her grasp as if she had never held one before.

"Oops."

Guess she had to pick that up, so down on one knee she went to reach for it, which made the stealthy-job easier.

It was hard to get it to slide in at the angle, but given some time, she'd be able to do it. Like a USB stick, in once, turn it around, in again, turn it around, now it's good.

Why does it always do that? she thought with some annoyance. You'd think such a masterfully crafted dataspike would've been smarter, but nooo... it was like all the other dataspikes in that regard.

With that done, she finally 'recovered' her commlink too. "Ah, you naughty petite thing."

Now they just had to hope that the dataspike would work as Kai's mystery-friend said it would.
