Wood Folk (Day 1 Mid Afternoon)

[Kai Wryssald]

"Sooo...." Kai glanced around the area. "Why are we here again?" This wasnt exactly what Kai thought of when you said forest. He was thinking someplace a bit more pleasant.

Someplace to take a lady for a picnic or a walk. Maybe make out a bit under the tree tops. This was definitely not that place. It was more creepy then anything, and they needed lights to get around even in the middle of the afternoon. "Is there anything I should keep my eyes open for."

[Jelna Vawn]

"Haven't you ever heard of the call to adventure?" Jelna smirked and lowered her scanner goggles from her forehead. She looked around for any signs of life as something told her that there was more than just the two of them around.

And she had trained herself to trust her intuition. "I have no idea. I brought ya along in case somethin' wanted to fight."

[Kai Wryssald]

"Sure I have." He flashed a grin her way. "I just prefer my adventure be somewhere with a few drinks and a lovely lady or two."

His eyes moved towards their surroundings. "And I've only got the lovely lady here... I left all the booze on the ship."

"Still I'll keep a look out."

As they continue to get deeper into the forest from it's edge the light all around them begins to drop off rapidly. Just a few feet into the forest it appears as dark as night from the intense tree coverage. Nothing else can be seen except for what lies in the light of the glowstick for Kai as Jelna notices some light plant life from the surrounding area outside quickly drops off. For some time they would appear to be lost in a sea of trees as they could continue deeper.

Jelna pulled out her knife and extended out the attached compass. She held it up for a bit and announced to herself, "Take note of the directions at this time." It was not unusual in the least for her to talk to herself, or rather her recording device, so it likely came to no surprise for Kai. Whether or not he thought she was weird for it was his business. She looked back towards civilization. "That is the way back home."

She continued onward with the knife's compass still out and looked around with her goggles. It was hard to see in them and she wondered if she could get eye implants that could see in the dark too.

They were able to travel deeper, they think, into the forest thanks to Jelna's guidance, slipping beyond tree after tree until at one point they heard a noise. Something scratching up against a tree trunk nearby. Upon turning his glow rod at the sound the Nexu that had been hunting them was suddenly illuminated by the light. Recoiling from the light the creature growled in pain, quickly ducking it's head down and away. The tail whipping and lashing the tree it was skulking around as it raced off, breaking bark off from the trunk and sending it scattering about the ground.

Surrounding them was the near barren forest floor. Covered largely in the fallen leaves and branches from up above.

"This is a lovely place you brought us too." Kai mused as he sat held the Nexu disappear into the woods. "It seems quite full of friendly creatures that want to invite us for dinner."

That was followed by him scanning the area with his flashlight. "See anything of interest in those googles?"

[Jelna Vawn]

"Well, we'll give them somethin' to chew on if they try anythin', won't we?" Jelna remarked. She pulled out her X-30 Lancer with her spare hand and looked around. "Good to know there're nexu out here and the like. If we ever need to stage a death, we could let the poor fellow get mauled by one of them."

[Kai Wryssald]

"Any particular reason why we would need to stage a death?" Kai asked lips quirked into a half smile. Jelna could be a bit peculiar at times.

[Jelna Vawn]

"Well let's say somebody gets too much into our business, Kai. Then we'd have to get rid of them." Jelna looked at her compass and then sighed. "I reckon there ain't much to find out here. Otherwise, the locals would have already done so."

"I suppose you're right about that. From the way I hear it though, there are a lot of small time criminals here. Maybe we wouldn't need to make someone disappear?"

He paused thoughtfully. "Might make more sense to shift the blame onto others?" Jelna had talked about doing things like that before.

[Jelna Vawn]

"Well, some jobs might ask us to be more discreet," she remarked, "Though I'd be pressed to say that those aren't bounties anymore. That's just plain assassination and murder, partner."

[Kai Wryssald]

"Aren't you supposed to say Darlin'? He asked quilting a smile as his eyes scanned the area. "Or maybe even Pard'ner?"

Either one would probably fit the accent better. At least according to the holo's he had seen. "Either way, it's not like we take credits for assassination."

[Jelna Vawn]

"Y'all insist on them nicknames. I can't say I'm a fan of them myself still," Jelna said with a shake of her head. She then thought on his suggestion and then shrugged. "You think I should change it up even more? I feel like at some point, it becomes a bit silly. Perhaps it already has."

She glowered and kept silent on the last bit. She knew that, if the time came, she'd take blood money if they needed it.

"They have a reason, several of them, and you know it, Babe." His smile was a bit playful but his tone was serious. "They work as an alias, people thinking we're in a relationship can keep others at bay, and they're cute."

"If you want to have a vote for new nicknames we can sometime though." They hadn't changed them up since Sweetie passed.

"I think it works fine as it is honestly. Well, except that partner. That sounded like one cop talking to another. Needed a bit more of a drawl to it."

[Jelna Vawn]

Jelna crossed her arms and smiled weakly. "We're all in somethin' with you, are we? Or is this some polyamorous mix on the ship?" Sweetie had taken a liking to them herself, and far be it for Jelna to go so far as to change them. "Part of my story right now is that I'm in a sexual relationship with a boy who don't want to go public with it."

The blonde sighed. "I already used 'partner' around other folk. Would be weird if I suddenly added a drawl to it>"

"Who knows." He replied with a shrug. "The point is to be confusing about it all, isnt it?" That was part of what made people stay away, or so he assumed.

"Yeah. That would be odd, I just figured I'd point it out. Not like you need to change it."

[Please make a Perception Check vs 2 Challenge Dice, 2 Difficulty Dice. Jelna will not suffer any setback from the darkness if she makes the check. Kai will suffer two. One person makes the check, this can benefit from the assistance of the other.]

"Well, sometimes too much confusion can draw too much attention." Jelna remarked. Still, she kept her eyes open, and started to lose herself in searching the place. In the zone, she had been one of the best investigators back in the ISB.
