MA1 - Scanning the System

The untamed lands of Noventa

The wind picked up briefly, as if the nerves of the group, or the concern of the others, seemed to excite it. There were no signs of any dead troopers, or even equipment, inside the pods. The sun continued to beat down upon the group, though the breeze did not allow it to feel so oppressive.

Yet why were there drop pods here?

"No friend of them, non," the twi'lek nodded to the big bearded man. Somehow he made her think of an older version of Kai - maybe like a grandfather or something. "Pourquoi would they come here...?"

She didn't comment to the blue man stating the obvious. He and the girl had a funny feeling to them, similarly to how she had felt at the Codpiece the other day... something she hadn't been able to put her finger on. Instead, she peeked inside the pod, looking for maybe a computer-panel or something that could give some sort of clue.

The tracker in Banks automatically kicked in when it appeared that the situation was not what it should be. He walked up close to the pods and began looking for signs of tracks to where the occupants may have gone... and while the tracks were purposefully well-hidden by those who had been in the pods Banks was able to pick something up with difficulty...

Soren, as you look, you find that someone had tried to cover the tracks. Your training, and instinct, though, allows you to find them. The boots don't match those of standard imperial troops. Either this is something new, or they were masked, you can't tell exactly what kind or how many (using the three threat to hide their numbers).

Of notice, however, while you track, is a noise. The sound of something beeping nearby.

Sharn couldn't be less bothered by the thoughts and findings of others in the group. He sought transponders on the capsules or flight record chips embedded in them.

Looking inside the pods, it was apparent that whoever had arrived had orders to leave no evidence of their point of origin. Sparks flew from burnt out consoles, displays overheated out.

It could take some time and doing, perhaps something could be pieced together. But it was having to deal with some expert work.

(Computers check, formidable difficulty, with two setback representing the thorough work done by whatever systems had been used to break down the computers within the pods. Time could become a factor, depending on what happens elsewhere. Base is about an hour of dedicated work.)

Banks would approach the beeping carefully and quietly...

For Sharn, impossible intellectual challenge was Tuesday. Without a word, he got down to mending whatever data strains were still retrievable. Still, it taxed him, and took time.

Okay. Doing this will take an hour. I am not spending that remaining threat on strain. You will only take the strain from talent use. I am spending that one threat on degrading information quality.

Banks, coming over the ravine, you have found the source of the signal beeping.

Image

An Arakyd Industries Viper Probe Droid. It's domed head, with various large photoreceptors taking in the scene around it. Taking... mineral samples.

Where you stand, is a blind spot in its sensors. But, you also note, that it will be upon the others before they know it.

And you don't have enough time to warn them.

You have a choice to make. Call attention to you? Or let the others get ambushed.

Despair used to force a moral choice.

Banks watched the droid silently for a moment as a hunter watches its prey. Normally he'd be inclined to let the thing go about its business, because he seriously doubted it was simply this droid he was looking for.

But as he saw it begin to head down in the direction of the pods the image of the litte girl Quinn popped into his mind... He was sure they could take out the droid, but not as sure they could take it out before it fired a couple of shots. And if that girl went down in the crossfire... well Cal would not be too happy that Soren let it happen. It'd possibly jeopardize his relationship with the bartender... and deprive him of his watering hole which helped him find leads for work.

Damn it... Normally I could just flip skins for a while and no one would notice... this is why you don't let anyone know what you are...

He pulled up his blaster rifle from his back quietly and slowly, making sure not to provoke a response too soon. He carefully put the droid in his sights and fired, hitting it under the dome in the narrow part above the main chassis.

The blaster shot scores a direct hit, sending the droid tumbling in midair. The photorecptors flash red, as the domed thing turns in the direction of the shot.

The critical sustained by the droid seemed to impede it. It moved, with relentless pace, towards the now prone hunter. An internal blaster bolt shot out. Even in his defensive position, the searing shot tore into Banks.

(2 strain, 2 maneuvers to move from long range to medium. Action: fire blaster)

Kor hears the sound of the blaster fire from a bit away and makes his way towards the sound moving as fast as he could bounding towards the fire fight ax in hand. His readiness training allowing him to spring into action at the first sign of trouble. He knew Quinn well enough by now to know she would stay away from trouble and she was pretty good at it, neither of the others there seemed too much like fighters nor a threat to Quinn.

The Probe Droid's sensors went off, detecting another life form coming over the ridge. A high pitched wailing sound echoed from it, as it continued the relentless movement towards the Hunter that had fired upon it. Floating above Banks, it all of a sudden detonated, raining shrapnel down onto the being, the explosion reverberating through the plains.

(Maneuver to short range with Banks, 2 strain, second maneuver to engage. Incidental - Self Destruct. Banks suffers 10 damage before soak).

Banks tried to shield himself the best he could but took a hefty amount of shrapnel across his back as the droid suddenly blew itself up. As his ears stopped ringing he slowly stood himself up and began dusting off his clothes.

"Damn Imperial probes... Pain in my ass." He said as he pulled out another one of his stims and jabbed it into his leg.
