D6, MM - Darkly Unawares (Ask)

[Tewzada Star'Ti]

On the edge of the Forest, Tewzada Star'Ti waited with her AC droid close by. On her head she had her scanner goggles, and on her hips her utility belt with its glow rod, stim packs, rations, water flask, and repair patches. Was she sure she was prepared? No. But she never let that stop her in the past, and she wasn't about to start letting it now.

For the moment, however, there was little else to do than wait on her new burly friend from the bar.

Kor arrrived at the time they agreed on and looked ready for a trek into the woods, he had brought his own glow rods and some rations. His armor was on and in working order, his ax was freshly polished and ready for use. The big man approached the twilek and nodded "morning Tew, you have any idea what we're going in here looking for yet?" he asked with a slightly quirked eyebrow.

Tew gave him a smile as Kor approached, listening then shaking her head, "I'm afraid not; There's just some mystery in these woods, something that makes it so dangerous, beyond how thick the trees are and how hungry the predators are. Not that I'm not taking those things seriously as is."

She looked back into the woods, "I take it you've never been into the forest here then?"

Kor shook his head "can't say that I have, never really had a reason to delve into the woods before. Besides they aren't my preferred type of place to spend time."

"Not the sort for camping and such?"

Tew started walking as she said this, the crunch of pine needles beneath her boots crisp against the quiet of the forest.

For what would seem like only a few feet they would suddenly descend into darkness, the tree coverage was quickly far more intense than might have been expected of from other forests. There was hardly that much room between trees and for those that were claustrophobic they might even start feeling the forest closing in on them from every corner. There was a power here that seemed tainted by the overwhelming power of the world as a whole.

"Not the sort for camping and such?"

Tew started walking as she said this, the crunch of pine needles beneath her boots crisp against the quiet of the forest.

Kor shook his head "I've had my fill of wilderness from my old jobs. The bit that I do know about these scenarios I came by honestly. But it's just a place like any other."

Though this forest was a tad bit more oppressive than usual. He pulled out his glow rod and got it lit up to shed some light on the surrounding area. And not just dark but part of him felt different here, felt darker, like the cave. There was darkness here.

He looked at Tew with a serious expression "Tew, this place is dangerous. I'll follow you and watch your back but if things go south I need to know you'll listen to me and not question what i tell you to do."

Tew nodded, looking at how her glow rod didn't illuminate things as well as would be expected, "Oh I wouldn't worry about that, big guy; I brought you with cause I trust your judgment. So I was planning on sticking with you regardless."

She looked back at him, "You see what I mean though? I have no idea how that local can think this darkness is natural; Simple leaves and wood don't do this to light."

Kor nodded to the twilek "good, just making sure." He took up position behind her as the walked, better that something nasty jump on his back than hers. Plus the view wasn't half bad.

"I do see what you mean, this is a dark place. I can feel it, part of me can." He spoke as they wandered deeper into the dark woods.

The darkness, it was an impossible perfect place to hide under the intense canopy above. How the trees seemed to fight each other to stay alive. That seemed the predominant feeling as they entered the woods and left the light of day behind. Glow rods illuminated little, trees blocking most direct lines of sight but it was through the scanner goggles that the forest opened up.

In this forest, predators stalked prey.

Kor wandered behind the Twilek doing the best to watch her back but the tightness of this forest made their lights barely useful he kept his head on a swivel and followed close behind Tew but as far as he could tell everything seemed pretty quiet.

The glow rid was not much help. Tew lowered her scanner goggles to her eyes as she could hear AC chirping a little tune, "...where did you hear that, AC? Have you been using the radio while I've been out of the apartment?"

She spoke quietly, following close behind Kor.

Aside from what seemed like the quiet of the forest taking on an almost otherworldly quietness, a stillness. Tewzada and Korvalus saw nothing good, nothing bad, they were alone.

Tew's frown deepened as she turned to Kor, "This isn't good. I had a feeling it was going to be bad, but not lime this. Maybe we should turn back before we get lost. Unless you have a plan; My droid can't even use its magnetic compass or gps, for some reason, which I was half counting on."

Kor shrugged again "Tew I told you I'm here to protect you, I can get by in a normal environment but this...." he gestured around the forest "This is a whole other beast, more predators than usual, more aggressive too. Plus darkness and something else that isn't so......solid." he said after a pause to find that right word.

"I'll do whatever you decide, I promised I'd have your back and your back I have." he said as he placed a hand on her shoulder, it lingered for a moment before he pulled it back.

She gave him a warm smile, "And I trust you; Think I said that already, but it's true. And I trust my hunches regarding this place hiding something that needs to be found. What I DON'T trust is the two of us v
being prepared. I was already kind of unsure if two people with glow rods was enough; Like some bad idea out of a horror holo. But I'm not much for superstition. But you're right; There's something off here, and now I can describe it first hand."

She paused, chin in her free hand, "...I just wish I knew a better way that we could realistically attempt. I'm just a reporter, after all; I don't have a ship or a platoon or military grade gear for these kinds of specialty situations."

"let's head back to town, there's a bar there that's not too bad. I know they just had a crisis but probably wouldn't mind some out of towners coming in for a little liquid breakfast." the light of the glow rods reflected off a white smile that appeared on the big man's face.

"we'll come back later when we come up with more of a plan. We can maybe meet up some night and discuss it over dinner or something."
