(D6 EM) System Query

Postby Yara Suhr » Thu Oct 25, 2018 2:59 am

Before the clinic officially opens its doors for the morning, Yara sits at her office desk with a cup of caf at one hand and a half-empty packet of blue yogurt at the other. She keys her passcode into the data terminal, skimming through today's personal calendar for any important flags for a few minutes before switching over to the public information net.

She tries a few queries, starting broad and then drilling down with more focus on likely leads--is there anything in the local news or official press releases about violent incidents involving Sector Rangers in the past week or so? Or anything more generally about anti-Imp extremists on Noventa, or attacks on former Imperial loyalists?

Across the sprawling available news outlets, having to contend with the difficulties of the Outer Rim signals to the Holonet, Yara first manages to the local news. Locally, as she expected there was a story of a Sector Ranger who was shot and killed after responding to the sounds of gunfire some days ago. There is a bulletin requesting all to be on the lookout as the subject is believed to be injured from what they have discovered of the crime scene. Little more in known by the sector rangers but as far as they could tell there was a gunfight between two civilians without a known history, not an uncommon thing nowadays thanks to Providencetown as the report claimed, and their unknown assailants. They believe the person responsible for murdering the Sector Ranger to be armed and dangerous and to proceed with caution if they are encountered.

This would have taken so much less time back on Coruscant, or even at the town library on Grange... but further digging eventually yields more detail.

Of all the stories Yara discovered that matched the one she had from this planet, they all alleged to the individuals showing up and exchanging gunfire with the victims. Various victims came up in her searches from different walks of life, some rich and some not-so rich. However, in none of her searches did she discover any previous dire run ins with authorities nor did she discover any potential connections to the Empire or the activities of the Rebels. All associated these attacks as random acts of violence that were "unfathomable to have taken place in our great city."

OOC: Want to make sure I'm understanding this clearly:

There's a group of people matching the description of our 'friends' who have been in shootouts with various people around town.

The various people our 'friends' fought with do not have any connections to the Empire or the Rebel Alliance(?), or known criminal histories.

Did our 'friends' seem to have shot first in these altercations?

[OOC]

All other accounts you bring up do not contain descriptions of the individuals who did the shooting. Only that the details of the shootings match up with the shooting you are aware of them perpetrating nigh perfectly.

That there are only the victims dead at the end of the other shootings you have uncovered you can surmise that these do appear premeditated.

They do not have any known connections to anyone, from he information you dug up. Which is, given their state of armament, slightly strange that nobody really seems to have links to them.

The investigators at these situations wither did not know or did not release who shot first. Seeing as only one side appeared to ever have casualties it could be surmised that the perpetrators always shot first.

They appear like hits on seemingly random targets.

These other stories are not on Noventa but other planets across the galaxy in various locations. Targets also appear random but most if not all are in the Outer Rim.

"Huh." Yara leans back in her office chair and picks up her yogurt, licking the spoon as she turns this over in her mind. But 'the Boss' was shot from the front, almost point-blank. That didn't look like an injury from a gun fight to me. Somebody pulled on him when he wasn't expecting it, caught him by surprise? Or a standoff went wrong, something like that. Not consistent with an ambush where he was doing the ambushing.

She finishes the rest of the package of yogurt while she thinks. Even if she decided she wanted to, turning the patient over to the authorities in connection with this fight with the Sector Ranger isn't an option, ethically speaking. Most everything Yara had heard and seen that night is now privileged health information, a major ethical violation to disclose without patient consent. Her best option may simply be to discharge 'the Boss' and get on with her life.

But 'Cap' had mentioned owing the clinic crew a favor... what if they need that favor some day? Wouldn't it be a good idea to know who they'd be dealing with if they ever call the favor in?

Setting the empty yogurt carton aside, she starts pulling up whatever public information she can find about the early Rebel cell on Noventa, the one associated with Gerrera's Partisans. Maybe that will turn up some clue about the identity or motives of her patient and his friends.

((probably the last search, I don't want to spam you with them!))

Yara, having been a member of the Rebellion, would possibly have heard such things during her time with them. It was only a matter if she recalled the information properly...

There must have been some conversation about it during one of those long nights on Hoth...

What Yara remembers about them is that the rebel fights on Noventa were once part of the Partisans, Saw Gerrera's Rebels, but when he was becoming increasingly more volatile the majority of them broke off. Looking at her current situation it is likely that these are some of the few who believed differently than the others from Noventa, that Saw Gerrera was moving in the right direction and the only way to make the Empire hurt was to hurt them back. Yara even remembers hearing whispers about some who didn't like it, a man who made a bit of a show by the name of Tarvid, back in the day.

"Well. That's certainly... something." Yara checks her chrono and pushes back from her desk. After a quick stop in the break room to dispose of the yogurt package and toss the spoon in the sterilizer, she finishes her morning routine: checking the tests running overnight in the clinic's tiny lab, decanting last night's patient from Bacta Tank 1 and sending him back off to his bar after a quick final check-up, setting the tank for a cleaning cycle.

Then she wanders down the hall and taps at the door of Raine's security office.

Temra staggers bleary eyed down the hallway.

"IV caf hookup, stat." He jokes as he crosses paths with Yara as she is headed to meet Raine.

"Oh, good morning, Temra." Yara gives him a slightly distracted smile. "Caf's up, but you'll have to find your own IV needle. Have you got a minute after that? I've learned something interesting about our late-night patients from a few days ago--I was just on my way to tell Raine about it."

"Five minutes grace and then I'm all yours for a few hours Dr Suhr." Temra responds with a nod of his head before rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

"If it's that urgent, I assume it's not good news then?"

"Not bad, not especially good. But good to know, certainly." She waves him in the direction of the break room. "By no means too urgent for caf and breakfast."
