Clementine walks towards the door. Each step is slightly smaller, though. Then every third step, he half-turns to look behind him. Then every other step. Eventually, it's less of a walk and more of a strange, halting dance. The crate is too well packed for there to be any sloshing or clinking, but perhaps one imagines it.
At the wide loading door, Clementine looks one last time from the Kaneesa to the droid -- and then away, turning out to walk in to the night. His vocoder hisses and spits static, quietly: not able to think through this without talking, not wanting to share, not able to produce clear audio at low volume. Occasionally, a word emerges from the digital mumble, but it only grows quieter and less distinct.
I do not have any bolt on me. No, no bolt. And that is not easy. You have to hustle to keep the bolt off your chest. Times have been lean, yes they have. Kaneesa has been keeping an eye out for the big score. This is a score. I cannot make a mess of it. Not for you, buddy. Not for anyone. Thinking like that does not keep the bolt off your chest. Thinking like that does not keep the power trickling. Thinking like that does not keep spare parts in stock. Some pneumatics in his arm, used for raising and lowering and disengaged while the crate is lifted, hiss and clank, as if running through a diagnostic check and finding a ghostly piece of grit that can't quite work out.
No bolt on me, buddy. Not for you. Not for anyone.
