Medical Mysteries (D4 MA, Streets)

Postby Yara Suhr » Sun Oct 21, 2018 6:37 pm

Perhaps it would be safer not to pry, but curiosity is one of Yara's character flaws. The fact that the mystery patient in the clinic's bacta tank had apparently not been the aggressor when he was shot, combined with his... subordinate's?... mention of the Rebellion gives her the feeling that whomever they are and whatever they were up to, their enemies are probably shadier. And despite what she'd said about the anonymity of bodies in tanks, if she's annoying someone dangerous in the name of medical ethics it can't hurt to know who that might be.

It might surprise some people who don't know Yara very well that she seems to have a pretty good idea whom to ask about these things among the little shops and street corners of Noventa City.

D4 MA--who is the mystery patient? Knowledge: Underworld w/ unknown difficulty (or knock off one green if it should be Streetwise). Cloak + talent cancel any weather setbacks: 4eA 2 successes, 4 advantage

Difficulty Check, Yara Suhr: 3eD 1 failure, 2 threat
ImageImageImage

[1 Success, 2 Advantage]

Yara Suhr must have known, despite her cushy job as a Doctor and saver of life, that the best place to get information about anyone was on the street. Out here in the streets of Noventa City the underworld wasn't as prevalent as it was in Providencetown but it existed all the same. What she knew from living in this city was that a lot of information passed through a Neimoidian Broker cleverly named Shear. Lucky for Yara, he had a soft spot for human females and was known to give discounts for '"gracing him with their time" as he would say.

Shear frequented dive bars in the southern side of the city. Surely, with a little luck, she knew she could find him down there.

Hmm, so old Shear might know something about 'Cap' and 'the Boss'? He's not Yara's favorite Nemoidian--that distinction belongs to a medical-supplies dealer on Ord Mantell whose conviction that the Emperor was 'bad for business' had led to some surprisingly generous discounts for Alliance buyers--but she can deal with him. And she knows which bars to check, more or less, which is how she finds herself in a dark, dingy dive with an unnaturally purple drink in front of her...

Dr. Suhr didn't have to tolerate the glances and leers of the usual denizens of this particular dive for long. Without more than half an hours wait the Neimoidian she sought revealed himself. With a wide grin and arms laid out open at his sides he greeted, "Yara Suhr, Doctor of the Neda Ulaby Memorial Medical Center. Yours is not a sight that is often found among our kind down here. Looking for something, I would wager?" he said with an impossible confidence. Confidence born to a man who has made a life of knowing.. well, everything.

"Oh, I don't know exactly, Mr. Shear. I may be chasing at ghosts," she says cheerfully, making herself take a very small sip of the purple drank. It's mostly a prop, and she has no intention of consuming very much of it, but a prop only works if you handle it realistically. "But there is a sort of rumor I'm looking into for a friend. I thought if anyone had any clue about it at all, it would have to be you."

"Ah!" he said excitedly, "but of course, your friend must have the most interesting rumor to have you chasing it down. Of course, as you expected, I am the one to see after all. Providencetown may have it's corner but, well, they forget that the best way to maintain customers is quality and convenience. So, tell me Dr. Suhr, what is it you seek for your friend?"

"Oh, well, as I understand it," Yara swirls her drink, "my friend heard something to the effect that some people he knew back in the Alliance may be on Noventa now, or have been in the system recently. And that they might be in difficulties. Either way, I'm on-planet here, and he asked if I could find out how they're doing these days, thus..." she trails off with a shrug.

"The difficulty is, my friend used to run high-risk courier missions in those days, so who knows if the names he knew people by were their real ones. But he gave me a description of one woman, it sounded as if she might go by Cap or Captain..." Yara proceeds to give a bit of a physical description of 'Cap.'

There really is an off-planet friend who used to fly courier for the Alliance--come to think of it, she should send Leebo a holo-message one of these days, find out how the new hatchling is doing--but of course his involvement in this is completely fictional. Mostly, Yara figures that putting a slight layer of obfuscation between herself and the mystery crew will make it less likely for anyone with bad intentions to think they could get at the crew through Yara.

"Ahhh!" Shear lets the sound drag out, his eyes blink and he looks to Yara with what looks to be a wide grin for a Neimoidian. Taking now the seat beside her and facing her fully his tone rose and he spoke with some amusement. "Your friend has interesting friends in need indeed. This woman you ask for..." he crossed one hand over the other, thought for a moment and then offered, "she was never part of the alliance. No.. not a member of the alliance at all. I sniff a misdirection.." his smile grew wider.

"I.. know the information you seek, I can tell you all of this friend. However... I need something in exchange," the Neimoidian laid out his hand as if he was preparing to accept something, but exactly what appeared nebulous.

"That's quite possible. All I really know is that she was involved in the war somehow," Yara says affably, folding her hands around the stem of her glass. "I suppose my friend could owe me a favor... it depends what sort of exchange you have in mind, really."

An information broker, Shear deals in Information for cash, valuable objects, other information, or a combination of the previous three. What extra insight Yara knows about this particular information broke is that he's, despite his claims, relatively young in the game and prizes information for information trades a bit higher than others. Wishing to expand his resources so he can please more customers.

((Can my extra couple of Advantages give any insight as to the type of info he might value? I suppose I could fluff up some kind of 'off-planet info' Yara heard from a friend, or something about the recent animal attacks in various places (since I know about both the weirdly intelligent manka cats and Quinn's mishap). Or mention all the interest from PCs about the old Sienar factory? I'm not sure whether there's anything in particular you have in mind.))

[I won't say there's anything in particular, but to offer you one you hadn't thought of. You could inform him about how your meeting with Rullarc went. The goings on of the important folk is always a hot ticket. Otherwise, he'd be looking for something tangible that is in regards to Noventa. Weirdly intelligent Manka cats, interesting. Quinn's mishap, potentially interesting. PC's interest in Sienar, not so much. Things off world, definitely not.]

((Ah! I didn't even think of that as information currency since there wasn't any concrete intel passed along... but I can see how it might be of interest.))

"You weren't at Mulgin's party last night, were you, Shear?" She leans an elbow on the sticky bar-top and tries to project a confiding sort of air. "I had the most interesting time..."

Shear pulled his hands into his lap to hide his excitement, "Oh? Do, please go on. I would love to hear how my friends over in Providencetown are getting along..."

"I can't say I know which ones were your friends, but I saw..." Yara proceeds to tell Shear a bit about the sights of the party and some highlights of the meandering conversation she'd had with Rullarc Mulgin, including the hints she'd picked up about his grand ambitions for 'his' city of Providencetown and its population.

Shear listened intently to every word but even Yara gained the sense that Shear was seeing more in what she was telling him than she had realized was there, or perhaps he was seeing things that simply were not there. Regardless, when Yara finished her tale it ended the same way with another in turn.

"Once upon a time the resistance fighters of Noventa took cues from Saw Gerrera and his band, a militant approach to the destruction of the Empire. When the rest of the resistance here joined up with the Rebellion and then the New Republic these few remained true to their original cause, the elimination of the Imperials who had the galaxy in a choke hold and squeezed it for everything it had. They've been causing a bit of a stir lately because they haven't stopped," he said with a grin.

"Come to think of it, I heard of an attack on a few civilians in town the other day. Hear tell says a sector ranger got shot in the mess and they're still looking for who's responsible. One almost has to wonder if they were really your average civilians after all, what with the amount of gunfire I heard there had been. Enough to attract the nearest sector ranger, for sure," he grinned with a devilish look to him and laid his hand out flat in his lap.

"Guerrera," Yara repeats the name, picking through her memories. She vaguely recalls hearing about a Guerrera in the context of some breakaway extremist faction of the Alliance, but whoever he was exactly, he'd been dead long before she joined up. "Before my time, but... so, are you suggesting these people are some kind of vigilantes?" She's not sure she's sorted out Shear's tale correctly. Were Cap's crew the ones who shot the Ranger, or were they the victims, or some other part of the story?

"All I'm doing," he says with a grin too large for his face, "is pointing out the interesting coincidence that happens. When they arrive on a planet, former Imperials start to... die, usually violently. Because I enjoy your company so much, Yara," he rose in his seat with glee at the sound of him saying her name, "I would like to mention that if I were dealing with someone I knew to be so dangerous I would be very careful to not get involved. If I were involved, I'd keep my head down and get them out quick."

"Just my... personal opinion," he reminded.

"Hm. Well, thank you for your advice," Yara says with a faint thoughtful frown, tapping her fingers on the bar top. "I'll pass it along to my friend."

"Yes.. be sure this information gets to them, if they're worried about their... friends," he said, turning in to the bar and ordering a drink. Should she desire this would be Yara's chance to depart. Which, to avoid any unnecessary attempts at flirting, might be for the best.
