[D3EA] I Hate Noventa City Stormtroopers

Cal never entirely dressed down; clothes made the man, his mentor had taught him. Still, he was clearly dressed for doing some foot travel, with higher boots than usual. A cloak over his usual clothing, keeping the rain off. And, of course, his hat. It really pulled the outfit together.

But he wasn't just walking about for the pleasure of the rain. He was meeting some folk that he thought might be able to help. He'd sent over some info. Time to see if they could all track it down together.

He narrowed his eyes as he looked around, waiting.

Eventually his waiting would pay off. Likewise, Fey had dressed with the weather in consideration, with boots going up to her knees, her duster closed together to keep her shirt dry, and a wide-brimmed hat made to fit a twi'lek. It did help her look the part of a bounty hunter this way.

She gave a wave. "Bonjour, moniseur." One of her lekku was draped around her neck like a fashionable scarf.

"Let's not get too comfy with this stranger. We've only known him for a couple days."

Jelna adjusted her actual scarf and smiled at the man when he was close. "Howdy, partner. Lovely weather, huh?" she announced with some sass.

Cal smiled as the two approached. The weather wasn't that nice, but he felt like his day was looking up. "Miss Fey." He acknowledged her with a touch to the brim of his hat, and a smile that definitely crossed the border into playful. "Miss Vawn." He chuckled softly. "Howdy yourself." He looked curiously at her. The way she spoke almost marked her as a local. Maybe somewhere nearby in the sector, anyway.

He looked back and forth between them, his expression growing serious. "Thanks to both of you for coming. Seemed like the more eyes I had on this, the better."

Cal's lips pursed. "Now, I gave you most of the info in my message, and I imagine Fey shared the rest." He gave the pretty twi'lek a nod. "But there's one thing I left off. Does the name Admiral Patrice Verlasso mean anything to either of you?"

"Hmmm," Fey glanced to Jelna. She could remember something about that name.

Jelna had never known the Admiral personally but she assumed this was the one she had heard about causing a ruckus at Noventa. She crossed her arms and looked at her partner. Something about the look suggested that her twi'lek companion had heard more about this Admiral.

And she didn't think it would make sense for their cover if they did. "Can't say we know her, partner, but I did hear about some Imperials up to no good in these parts."

Cefey, in your past, you had even met the Admiral. Once. Some gala function in the deep core where you had been brought. She was highly professional, and based on her demeanor, unquestionably loyal to the Empire and what it represented to the Galaxy. (Advantage spent for the extra detail.)

She was a noted fleet Admiral, known not only for the dedication and bravery of those under her command, but her wisdom in not seeking encounters won through sheer numbers but the subtle application of tactics.

Oh right... was it her?

Fey kept a quiet tone as she spoke, not wanting others to overhear. "Hmm... very noted fleet admiral, if I am not mistaken, monsieur. Not one who would charge in with le brute tactics, but much more subtle. Why do tu ask?"

"Huh." Cal scratched at his stubble with one hand. "That fits. We got some info that she's behind this operation."

He glanced back and forth between them. "Now, my thought is we look around. See if anyone's notice signs of these newcomers. It's hard to move in that many troops without someone taking notice, even in a place like this." He smiled. "Let's go see what we can stir up."

He started to walk, but then hesitated. "Uh... I mean that as a figure of speech. We actually want to try'n keep this as quiet as possible." He looked to Jelna, ceding the lead to her.

Fey nodded. "Oui, quiet and subtle." Like our enemies. "We have experience with this."

She too ceded lead to Jelna, knowing this was her field of expertise, and the twi'lek was ready to support her captain. Though she did keep in mind that Cal probably knew the city better.

"We sure do." Jelna signaled for the others to follow her lead. Partway through their walk, she wrapped her arm around her all snug like and began pointing out areas of interest like a tourist. "Maybe they have nice food?" she mused, as it was where she expected the Imperials may have gotten supplies.

Word has spread about string of break ins at local farms. Livestock wasn't taken, but supplies from stores taken, clothes, foodstuffs. There even was a rumor of militia armory being raided (threat used for muddied information) but no one recalls seeing anyone who may have done the raids.

They were in and out. Quickly.

Cal grimaced. "If they're hitting local farms, chances are they're not actually in the city. Might be out and around. There's so many places to hide around here."

He looked at the other two. "Seems like it might be good if we could confirm that. Or else we'll have a lot of ground to cover. You got any thoughts?"

Fey was happily playing the role of Jelna's 'girlfriend' as they were checking things out.

Though things seemed very serious. "Mm, je don't think there were any signs of speeders where the pods were dropped, so the farmsteads must've been within a day's walking distance of the drop-pods, I think?" her accent seemed a little less pronounced as she thought more seriously about the issue.

"That explains some of the low stocks then," Jelna said after releasing Cefey from the embrace. She crossed her arms and shrugged. "How good are these militia folk anyways? I mean, no offense, but they did just have their stuff taken." She then sighed. "It'd be good to know if these are some sort of black ops sorts who stole from a fortified compound or if was easy for anybody to do."

Plus, it was an option down the line for the Ivory Phoenix too.

"I can't imagine they've stuck together in their raids. Would be too inefficient."

"Not in big groups, but smaller ones. Deux or trois for efficiency." Being solo seemed inefficient to her if they needed to raid places fast. And troopers always moved in groups of some kind.

"Maybe check with farmers, or militia folk?" Fey looked more to Cal now as he was the local. "To confirm?"

Cal nodded. "Militia folk'd be my best guess. Better trained, and better defenses, so we'll know more what we're dealing with. Probably keep better inventory. Might have security cameras." He grimaced. "And I'm more worried about what's gone missing from there."

He gave the apparent 'couple' a curious look. He'd never bothered with that sort of thing when he was a marshal. But of course, maybe independents needed more ruses. "C'mon." He said, jerking his head. "I'll take you there." Ignoring the rain, he led the way down towards the local militia HQ.

"Lead the way!"

She hoped that some places would've had security cameras, though she suspected that if the troopers had been there, they had tampered with it if possible.

It wasn't that hard to find a militia office. The things were scattered all around. Never knew when you'd be finding trouble, after all.

Cal, as a proper gentleman, held the door for the other two, tipping his hat as he did so. At the same time, though, he frowned. "Not sure how much they'll talk to us. I'm a little bit official, but not much. Suppose we'll see how it goes."

"Merci," cooed the twi'lek as the man held the door for her and once inside she slipped off her hat to give it good shake - which sent quite a few water droplets out.

"Your officialness, and our charm should help out, oui?" Fey at least was used to getting a lot of things her way in cases like this with pure charm.
